"Eighty per cent of intensive care units (ICUs) in England are participating in Matching Michigan. This is a patient safety project based on a model developed in the United States which, over 18 months, saved around 1,500 patient lives. It took place at ICUs in Michigan and introduced measures that reduce central venous catheter (CVC) associated bloodstream infections."

Matching Michigan Funding Opportunities for quality improvement and evaluation projects The National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA), in collaboration with the Intensive Care Society and the World Health Organisation Patient Safety Programme, has a number of opportunities to fund quality improvement work related to Matching Michigan. These funds will give healthcare professionals working in intensive care the opportunity for small scale changes to improve patient care. The value of funds available is £100 to £8,000. Applicants must be healthcare professionals who are linked to, or working in an intensive care unit participating in the Matching Michigan project.
